Texas Revises Application for Ballot By Mail

The application for a ballot by mail has been revised by the Texas Secretary of State. Voters who want to vote by mail must use this new application to request a ballot by mail. If a voter uses the wrong application for a ballot by mail, it will be rejected by the Elections Office.

If this happens, the Elections Office will send the voter a notice of rejected application for ballot by mail, however, they will include the correct application along with the notice.

Voters are eligible to request an application for a ballot by mail if they meet one of the following: criteria:

• 65 year of age or older

• Disability (voter affirms on the application they have sickness or physical condition that prevents them from appearing at the polling place on Election Day without a likelihood of needing personal assistance or of injuring them their health)

• Expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day

• Expected absence from the county for the entire period of early voting through Election Day

• Confined in jail or involuntary civil commitment

Voters must request their own Application for a Ballot by Mail and cannot request an application for their spouse, neighbor, friend etc. If eligible to vote by mail, voters will need to provide either a Texas Driver’s license number, Texas Personal ID number, or the last four digits of their SSN. Whichever one the voter uses, they need to make sure they use the same number on their application and mail ballot carrier envelope. Voters who wish to vote in the Primary Election must indicate on the application if they want a Democrat or Republican ballot.

Voters will soon be able to track their Application for a Ballot by Mail as well as their voted ballot throughout the full election process.
