Fayette County Beekeepers Association to Meet April 4

The Fayette County Beekeepers Association (FaycoBeeks) will hold its next meeting on Saturday, April 4, at the Fayette County Agriculture Building in La Grange (255 Svoboda Ln).

The evening begins with Beekeeping 101 from 4:305:30 p.m. a session ideal for beginners or anyone interested in getting started with honey bees. At 5:30 p.m. members and guests will enjoy a potluck dinner, please bring a favorite entrée, side, or dessert to share.

Following dinner, the club will conduct its regular business meeting and then welcome this month’s guest speaker, Bill Baxter, assistant chief Apiary Inspector with the Texas Apiary Inspection Service. Bill is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Animal Science and has spent over four decades with the Texas Apiary Inspection Service.

Throughout his career, he has worked with Africanized honey bees statewide and has witnessed the introduction of tracheal mites, varroa mites, and Africanized genetics into Texas bee populations. Having worked alongside multiple generations of beekeeping families, Bill offers a wealth of knowledge and practical insight into the evolving landscape of beekeeping.
