Several Animals Die in Fayetteville Barn Fire

The scene of the barn fire Monday in Fayetteville.

Several livestock perished in a barn fire near Fayetteville last Monday.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said a 911 call came in around 8:18 p.m. reporting a large fire in some trees along SH 159 near Skalitsky Rd.

Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department responded along with Deputy Noah Geer. They discovered a metal barn engulfed in flames with some nearby pasture burning as well. Fayetteville firefighters requested mutual aid from Round Top-Warrenton VFD and Ellinger VFD. It took several hours for firefighters to extinguish the flames.

Fayetteville Fire Chief Randy Noviskie said the barn contained several head of livestock. Some of the animals were moved into a nearby pasture and survived the ordeal. Unfortunately, however, Noviskie said several of the livestock died in the fire.

Noviskie said the initial investigation determined that the fire was accidental, but he did not know the cause. He said the State Fire Marshal’s office will conduct an investigation.

Also assisting with the fire were Fayette County Sgt. Ron Naumann, Sgt Duane Meagher, and Deputy Wesley Arrison along with Fayette County EMS Medic Unit 2 and EMS Supervisor 3.
