The La Grange City Council appointed Kim Newton to the vacant City Council seat for Ward 3 at their May 8 meeting. Newton replaces Dusty Littrell, who resigned from the Council last month.

Fayette County Commissioners hired local CPA Greg Trlicek to perform audits of each County department that handles money. Every year, the County hires an outside accountant to conduct an overall audit of the County’s finances, which is required by state law.

On Thursday, May 4 Round Top-Carmine High School hosted its Academic Banquet to award high school seniors with financial scholarships and graduation honors. So far, the senior class of 2023, comprised of 12 students, earned approximately $63,400 for post high school education including academics or trades.

Fayetteville ISD will hold the county’s first 2023 high school graduation with ceremonies on Friday, May 19 at 7 p.m. in the gym.

Friends of the Schulenburg Library are hosting their annual Book Sale at the library at 310 Simpson St. in Schulenburg, beginning Monday, May 15 to Tuesday, May 23 during regular library hours. Books are from a variety of sources including many donations of long loved collections by those in declutter mode. Whether you wish to buy or just browse, all are welcome to ply the organized sections. Prices start at fifty cents. Hardcovers from a dollar. Proceeds benefit the library.
