Grant Received For Drainage Master Plan
Fayette County received a $466,039 grant to develop a master drainage plan for the County.
This long-awaited grant dates back to 2018. Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Angela Hahn said her predecessor Janet Carrigan applied for the grant after the Hurricane Harvey flood devastated many areas of the County.
According to the scope of work for the grant, the master plan will identify the drainage area of every stream crossing in the County. A study will be conducted to determine the proper size of the drainage structures for each crossing. The County can then use this information to plan and budget for future drainage improvements. The plan will also provide key information that the County can use when applying for future grants.
The funds come from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and are administered by Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM).
“It was not disapproved the first time around, but it was set aside as an alternate to see if there was any additional funding,” Hahn told the Commissioners at their meeting last Thursday, May 11.
TDEM notified the County about the award in April 25.
Commissioners voted unanimously to accept the grant. The County will have to pay 25 percent of the award amount, or about $116,510.
