Parkinson’s Group
Friends of the Schulenburg Library are hosting their annual Book Sale at the library at 310 Simpson St. in Schulenburg, beginning Monday, May 15 to Tuesday, May 23 during regular library hours. Books are from a variety of sources including many donations of long loved collections by those in declutter mode. Whether you wish to buy or just browse, all are welcome to ply the organized sections. Prices start at fifty cents. Hardcovers from a dollar. Proceeds benefit the library.
The monthly meeting of the Parkinson’s support group will be held Thursday, May 18 at 10 a.m. in the Randolph Recreation Center located at 659 E. Pearl St. in La Grange. Anyone who wants to attend the meetings are welcome, but anyone diagnosed as having this illness, and their caregivers, are particularly encouraged to attend. Republican Women
The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, May 18, at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Dr. in La Grange. Speaker will be Lt. Colonel (U.S. Army, Ret.) Jeffrey F. Addicott. He is a full Professor of Law and the Director of the Warrior Defense Project at St. Mary’s University School of Law, San Antonio. An active-duty Army officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps for twenty years, Professor Addicott spent a quarter of his career as the senior legal advisor to the United States Army’s Special Forces. As an internationally recognized authority on national security and terrorism law Professor Addicott not only lectures and participates in professional and academic organizations both in the United States and abroad (over 1,000 speeches), but he also testifies before Congress on a variety of legal issues. There will be a dinner buffet available for attendees who want to arrive early to enjoy a great meal (Dutch treat). Drive-Thru Sausage Dinner
La Fayette Masonic Lodge in La Grange will be having a fundraiser on Friday, May 19 from 4-6 p.m. at the lodge building located at 1001 N. Jefferson, just North of the La Grange water tower. The meal is drive through only and includes ½ lb. sausage, potato salad and beans for $10 per plate. Proceeds go to support La Grange student activities and local charities.
Food Bank Truck
The Central Texas Food Bank food truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the junction of FM 1291 and FM 2145 on Saturday, May 20 from 10 until 11 a.m. Food distribution will be walk-up method. Volunteers will distribute the food from tables as clients walk through the line making their selections. Every client needs to bring their own sturdy reusable bags and boxes. Wagons will be furnished by the food bank.
Free Piano Recital
Pianists Miles Gillette and Christie Pollard, students at Baylor University’s School of Music, will perform in concert on Saturday, May 20 at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church, 205 S. Franklin St., La Grange. Their classical music repertoire runs the gamut from Schubert to Prokofiev. The concert is free of charge and open to the public.

Waldeck Lutheran Church Picnic The Waldeck Lutheran Church Picnic will be held Sunday, May 21. The meal will consist of barbecue pork steak with buttered potatoes, green beans, and homemade sauce for $15 a ticket. Serving will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dine in or eat to-go. Southern Plainsmen Gospel Quartet in LG The very talented Southern Plainsmen Gospel Quartet, appointed as Louisiana’s Goodwill Ambassadors by Louisiana Governor Mike Foster in 1998, will be singing at First United Methodist Church, 1215 North Von Minden Road in La Grange, for the 9 a.m. and 11:10 a.m. services on Sunday, May 21. This non-profit ministry, supported by the contributions of its Christian friends, appears in churches throughout the U.S. Their primary goal, since May 1978, is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ via the medium of gospel music and Christian witness. You will hear light humor and fantastic music. A separate freewill-loveoffering will be taken to help with their outreach to the Christian Community. Old High Hill Cemetery Meeting
The Old High Hill Cemetery Association annual business meeting will be held on Sunday, May 21 at St. Paul’s Hall, 712 Summit St. in Schulenburg at 2 p.m. All members, family, and descendants of those buried in the cemetery are encouraged to attend and participate in the meeting.The Old High Hill Cemetery is located about three miles northwest of Schulenburg on FM 2672. The Old High Hill Cemetery Association, Inc. is recognized as a non-profit, tax exempt organization under IRS Code Section 501(c)(13), which makes contributions tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Funds are needed to maintain this historic perpetual care cemetery.
The Round Top Family Library has free and open to the public chess club for adults and kids 7 and up on Wednesdays in May, June, July and August from 1-2 p.m.
KC Shrimp Boil

CDA Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange and Plum will be meeting on Monday, May 22, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewcz Center in La Grange at 6 p.m. for the annual May Social. LMS Girls Basketball Camp will be held Tuesday, May 30 through June 1 at the La Grange Middle School Gym. Session 1: 3rd-5th grade is from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Session 2: 6th-8th grade is from 2-3:30 p.m. The camp is $50. Make checks out to LGISD, indicate camp name and student in memo line. LMS Volleyball camp will be held Tuesday, May 30 through June 1 at the La Grange Middle School Gym. Session 1: 3rd-5th grade is from 8:30-10 a.m. Session 2: 6th-8th grade is from 10-11:30 a.m. Sessions and times may have to be adjusted after Monday, depending on the number of campers. The camp is $50. Make checks out to LGISD, indicate camp name and student in memo line.
