Fayette County beef cattle production continues to be a top performer in the state of Texas year in and year out. Annually, beef cattle producers face numerous challenges ranging from fluctuating cattle prices to environmental events like Hurricane Harvey and extreme drought. Therefore, the Fayette Beef Committee along with the Fayette County A&M AgriLife Extension Service work together and present timely and valuable best management practices to improve efficiency in beef cattle production.

Drunk Driving Suspected in Easter Crash

A wreck on Easter Sunday left one man injured and another in jail on suspicion of drunk driving. The crash happened at the intersection of Franklin and Live Oak Streets in La Grange near Fayette Public Library around 6:35 p.m.

Habitat Store to Be Open Twice A Month Now

Exciting things are happening at Habitat Home Supply, located at 825 N. Main St. in Schulenburg. Starting this Saturday, April 15 they will be open twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

More than 300,000 Texans picked up a phone or logged on to their computer in FY 2022 to file a report of suspected child abuse or neglect. As a result of those reports, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services saw more than 37,000 confirmed investigations into allegations of child abuse and neglect through the year.

Twenty-seven women from around the globe stayed the night in La Grange Monday as part of a group bicycling trip across the U.S. “This part of Texas, the hill country, has been the most beautiful of our entire trip so far, and the people have been the nicest,” said Laurie Singer, one of several who stopped at Latte on the Square, on their way to their overnight accommodations at The Best Western here.

Overpass Will Cost $30 Million

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) provided the Record with an update on the proposed overpass on US 77 in Schulenburg. TxDOT has not yet allocated funding for the project, but the department estimates it will cost about $30 million.
