The Blinn College District will offer students the opportunity to become essential members of the healthcare industry through its Certified Medication Aide (CMA) Program. The 140-hour, $805 course will be held Aug.

1973: Fayette County Sets Record Taxes/Fees Collection

For the first time in history, Fayette County took in more than $1.5 million in taxes and fees, according to Assessor-Collector Gilbert H. Eck. The exact number was $1,552,126.37. The largest chunk of that total was state, county and school taxes, which came to $992,182.63. The next highest category was motor vehicle registration fees of $331,330.44, which were split between the state and county. The motor vehicle sales and use tax was another big item, bringing in $220,386.36. At yearend, 98.47% of the county’s taxes had been collected. Only $15,846.32 was counted as delinquent.

Brush Pile Burn Training Class Held Here

South Central Texas Prescribed Burn Association (SCTPBA), in cooperation with Texas Parks and Wildlife and Fayette County AgriLife, sponsored a brush pile burn training class for landowners and land managers in the area, with the goal to reduce the number of brush pile calls to the volunteer fire departments. About 50 landowners from Fayette and surrounding counties attended.

H-E-B Celebrates 50 Years in La Grange

The La Grange H-E-B store held a 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, June 22. A huge crowd of folks filled the store and the surrounding grounds for entertainment and free food throughout the afternoon.
