The 51st annual Flatonia Czhilispiel took place this past weekend in downtown Flatonia. Texas Chili Company of Galveston led by head cook Kevin Foley won the CASI-sanctioned chili cookoff. Spice Crew led by head cook Kylie Mica won best hometown chili. Music entertainment throughout the weekend included performances by Cody Canada and The Departed, Sunny Sweeney, Texas Unlimited, The Emotions and more.
An estimated 1,500 revelers circled around the courthouse for the annual Trick-or-Treating on The Square in La Grange on Halloween, and that’s not counting adults who didn’t get candy. Above, a long line of trick-or-treaters makes their way down Colorado St. in front of Prosperity Bank. “I was really pleased with the event,” said Caleb Park of La Grange Main Street, the event’s sponsor. “We were wondering if weather was going to affect turnout, that didn’t seem to happen. Weather was quite nice actually.
After receiving abundant rainfall over the past several days, County Judge Dan Mueller lifts the burn ban beginning Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 6:00 a.m. Everyone is asked to exercise extreme care and caution when burning and you must plan the activity so that you are always present until the fire is completely out. Please contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department at 979-968-5856 or 743-HELP (743-4357) and advise them of your intent to burn.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said his officers are investigating criminal mischief in involving graffiti at two properties in town last week.
Property owners discovered the graffiti last Thursday on the fence of a residence on W. Crockett St. and on a storage building owned by Crosspoint Church. One of the markings included an expletive and words that appeared to say “Nazi scum.”
Gilbreath said investigators believe these were random acts of vandalism and not targeted at anyone in particular.
