Couple Shot and Killed in Shiner

The Shiner Gazette A couple was found deceased in their home on Tuesday, July 11, from gunshot wounds. The couple, Earl Hailey, 52, and Anna Marie Hailey had three children, one of which was discovered to be in the residence at the time of the crime.

St. Marks Medical Center Transition Update

Community engagement and communication efforts ramped up even more this week, as St. Marks Medical Center Employees continued to offer insight and advice on future plans. In total 125 hours were donated this week.At this point almost every employee and every department has been interviewed and asked for input on future operations. We met with 32 individuals directly related to SMMC and 47 individuals and organizations that are not a part of SMMC representing investors and interested community members. Presentations and details of our business plan were presented to four foundations, five philanthropist. The La Grange City Council hosted HCOE as an agenda item for an update and a question and answer time. HCOE’s Sam Wilson met with the Fayette County Judge to answer questions and discuss possible support from the County. HCOE’s Craig Moreau met with four local mayors. Local government remains helpful and informative as past and present elected officials lent advice and insight to operations.

Animal Control Officer Staying Busy

La Grange’s beloved dog catcher Dean Ahlschlager will retire as the City’s animal control officer at the beginning of next year. Ahlschlager said work has been pretty routine lately when the Record caught up with him this week.

LG Council Hears Insurance Pitch; Gives Out Money

At Monday’s La Grange City Council meeting, the council heard a presentation from Brett Bowers with HUB International, a firm that specializes in managing medical benefits for public sector employees. The Council heard from a competing firm at their last meeting. The City expects to see a huge rate increase this year from its current insurance provider, the Texas Municipal League. Council will vote at the next meeting whether to hire a firm like HUB to search for lower rates and handle the City’s health insurance program.

Sonya Dugger-Williams is the new Postmaster of La Grange. Dugger-Williams began her Postal career as a Rural Carrier Associate (RCA) in Kingwood, TX, in 2001.

New School Library Guidelines Detailed

In the aftermath of new state rules on school library book content, La Grange ISD Superintendent Andy McHazlett gave an update to the school board last week on creating a system to be able to make sure that the books that are on the library shelves are appropriate.

The La Grange Knights of Columbus Chromcik Council No. 2574 will host their annual Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament Friday, July 28 at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, morning and afternoon tee times. Two person scramble is $250 per team. All golfers are entitled to a free meal and drinks after the tournament at the La Grange Knights of Columbus Community Center. A live and silent auction and door prizes will be held. Plan to Save LG Hospital Explained to City Council

Craig Moreau, CEO of the Hospital Center of Excellence (HCOE), gave an update to the La Grange City Council Monday night. HCOE plans to take over the management of St. Mark’s Medical Center (SMMC) from Community Hospital Corporation (CHC) effective Sept. 1.

Fair Asks for Help to Fund New Food Court

Representatives from the Fayette County Fair appeared at the La Grange City Council meeting on Monday, July 25, to request assistance for their food court construction project at the Fairgrounds. The current food court, known as the German-Czech Mart, was built in 1972.
The Fayette County Fair Association is planning to build a new food court to replace the historic German-Czech Mart, above.
