American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 Supports Girls State

At the February monthly meeting, American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 members voted to financially support the applications of students from Round Top-Carmine High School for the 2023 Texas Girls State sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. The 2023 session of Texas Girls State was held from Sunday, June 18 through Saturday, June 24. American Legion Auxiliary President Lou Ann Williams and Post Commander Lyn Reavis coordinated with high school counselor, Debra Foster, to identify and recruit eligible candidates. The students selected were Maggie Salinas and Lucy Soto.

St. Mark’s Hospital to Shut Its Doors

A local group’s effort to take over management of St. Mark’s Medical Center fell apart after a vote by the La Grange City Council Monday night, Oct. 2. St. Mark’s announced on Wednesday that the hospital would close effective Oct. 12.

October is Czech Heritage Month

Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller and Commissioners signed a proclamation on Sept. 28 declaring October as Czech Heritage Month in Fayette County. Members of The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (TCHCC) and the Fayette County Czech Heritage Society (FCCHS) were present for the signing.
