A pair of motorists narrowly avoided a head-on collision on US 90 east of Schulenburg on Wednesday after one of the vehicles lost its steering due to a mechanical failure. The other vehicle went off the road and struck a tree. No one was seriously injured.

Estrada Makes Angelo State Deans’s List

Angelo State University in SanAngelo has announced the students achieving the Dean’s List for the 2023 fall semester, including Tyler Estrada of Flatonia.

To be eligible for the ASU Dean’s List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Estrada is majoring in Engineering Fundamentals CE at Angelo State.

LCRA Accepting Applications For Community Grant Program

Applications for grants of up to $50,000 to support first responders and community projects are available from the Lower Colorado River Authority. The grants can be used to improve fire stations and provide new equipment for emergency response teams, as well as improve local community centers, sports fields, museums, parks and more.

2023 Year-End County Road Mileage Report

Approximately 869 road miles are currently maintained by Fayette County. 86% of the county roads in Fayette County are paved. Three subdivision roads were adopted into the county road inventory in 2023. Following is a mileage breakdown of each Commissioner’s precinct:

One More Harvey Home Demo Remains

It’s been more than six years since Hurricane Harvey flooded homes on Country Club Drive. Following the flood in 2017, County leaders decided to buyout the damaged properties to prevent future development in the floodaffected area. The last home still standing may finally be demolished this year.

This year was another good year for Precinct One Road and Bridge. We got a lot accomplished despite weather not cooperating with us. The excessive heat and lack of rain made our job a little more difficult this year.
