FBI: Threat Against Jewish Places of Worship Included Schulenburg Temple
The FBI contacted Schulenburg Police Department last week to warn of threats against Jewish places of worship, including the local synagogue, Schulenburg’s Temple Israel. Police Chief Troy Brenek reports that an FBI agent called the police station last Wednesday, Jan. 3. Brenek said the agent reported that several threats have been made against Jewish congregations in the region. The agent asked officers to keep a close eye on Temple Israel. Brenek said he did not know the nature of the threat, and he did not believe Temple Israel was specifically targeted.
New Exhibit to Open At Quilt Museum Here
The Texas Quilt Museum goes big and bold right out of the gate in 2024 with three new exhibits: Kaffe Fassett: 85 & Fabulous, Houston International Quilt Festival Prizewinners 2023, and Prism Play: A Full Spectrum of Art Quilts. They will be on display in the Museum’s three galleries from January 11-April 27, 2024.
Winter is Coming: Teens in the Forecast Next Week
The coldest air of the Winter season thus far across South Central Texas is expected early next week. Temperatures are likely to be much lower than normal. The cold air mass is currently expected to arrive Sunday night into Monday morning. The most likely outcome is highs in the upper 20s and 30s on Monday, with lows in the teens for many areas on some mornings Monday through Wednesday of next week. Wind chills will be even colder, especially on Monday morning. At this time, chances for wintry precipitation are very low for most of the region. Now is the time to prepare for hazardous temperatures. Exposed pipes would freeze in these conditions, and people, plants, and pets will all need warm, safe shelter.

The Juneteenth Committee welcomes all community members to join Saturday, Jan. 13, in honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. At 11 a.m., the group will walk from the Fayette County Courthouse to the Fayette Public Library Gazebo as a show of unity. After a short program, refreshments will be served. Transportation back to the courthouse will be provided.
