Optimist Club Easter Carnival Coming to LG March 28-31

Merriam’s Midway Carnival is returning to Fayette County Fairgrounds for Easter Weekend, March 28 - 31, sponsored by The La Grange Optimist Club. The carnival opens at 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Free admission. All-you-can-ride armbands are $20.

Wear your Turtle Wing gear (or green) to school and work to show your support and inclusion of those friends and family who have learning challenges. The month of April, May and June will be packed with fun events brought to you by Turtle Wing. Keep a lookout for upcoming activities and events. Turtle Wing Foundation has been providing Early Intervention, Supplemental Services and Community Education and Advocacy programming to children and families with academic, social-emotional, behavioral and/or developmental needs since 2012. Annually, over 300 children are receiving direct services with thousands more benefiting indirectly through education and advocacy work. Gallery Talk at Quilt Museum

It was a full house on Saturday, March 9, at The Texas Quilt Museum. Quilt fans came from near and far for another free Gallery Talk: “The Art of Prism Play.” Guests enjoyed hearing the story of this incredible art quilt challenge from the exhibit creator, Cara Gulati, of the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) chapter of Northern California/Northern Nevada. Part Time Officers Hired For Round Top Weekends

The Town of Round Top signed an agreement with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office for part-time officers to patrol the town on weekends. “For the last six or so months, as a trial, Round Top has had a contract with the Sheriff’s Office to patrol town on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7 to 10 p.m., just to look out for suspicious people and watch speeders, those kinds of things,” said Round Top Mayor Mark Massey.

Fayette County Junior Livestock Show Rewards Hard Work The Fayette County Junior Livestock Show was held Friday at the fairgrounds in La Grange as local kids were able to put on display the animals they have been hard at work raising over the past several months. The sale was held Saturday.

Jaden’s dad said they had to get special permission to show a longhorn here, and he was told this was the first-ever longhorn shown at the Fayette County Show. Jaden was able to purchase Betty after catching a calf in the scramble at the Fort Worth Stock Show.

90% of Eclipse Will be Visible Here

A total solar eclipse will pass over the area on Monday, April 8. The auspicious event is expected to attract huge crowds along the path of totality where the Moon covers the Sun completely.

Back from the Dead

The Williams Creek Cemetery Association reorganized recently after a six-year hiatus. The last president of the association, Albert Jakobeit, died in 2021.
