$11,000 Seized During Traffic Stop

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on June 23, at approximately 9:54 p.m. Deputy Cody Williams was traveling westbound in or about the 665-mile marker area of I-10 where he stopped a 2012 Toyota Tundra for a traffic violation.

Deputy Williams made contact with the driver, Oscar Alfonso Perez Cantilloano and passenger Eduardo Jose Moreno, both of Honduras. Deputy Williams observed several criminal indicators and conflicting stories when he spoke with both subjects and obtained consent to search the vehicle.

While conducting a consent search of the vehicle, Deputy Williams located bulk United States currency. Due to conflicting stories, a lack of evidence proving that the money was legally earned, and several other criminal indicators, Deputy Williams took Perez and Moreno into custody from Money Laundering $2,500 to $30,000 and transported them to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Dan R. Beck Justice Center without incident.

Deputy Williams later submitted the arrest to United States Border Patrol Agents, who advised that the vehicle had been flagged for being associated with human smuggling.
