Blinn College Assisting Students, Families With New FAFSA Applications

The Blinn College-Schulenburg Campus is offering expert help to students and their families navigating the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application process. FAFSA Night will be held Monday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Liberal Arts Building Room 127. A financial aid specialist will be available for consultations in completing the 202425 FAFSA forms. No appointments are necessary, ensuring accessibility for all interested students.

New Power Plant Here To Employ Up To 100

The proposed City of Austin-Lower Colorado River Authority electric generating plant on Cedar Creek east of La Grange would employ approximately 500 people during construction and as many as 100 full-time employees when the facility reached full production. Following a study of 22 possible locations in central and southeast Texas, Austin city council members and LCRA directors unanimously approved a Fayette County site 8.5 miles east of La Grange, a tract involving approximately 6,400 acres of land. The plant, which was expected to cost about $400 million, was needed for generation by 1976 and would be the first ever built by Austin or the LCRA with coal as a fuel source.

Seniors Hear Benefits of Ambulance Membership

In a way of providing important information to our members and community at large, we sure enjoyed the presentation on Tuesday evening from Brian Slay, the representative from MASA, an ambulance coverage provider. He came and met with us at Robert’s in Flatonia at 6 p.m. and gave us a most informative presentation of the facts and figures on the benefits of joining the membership they offer. Throughout the hour and a half long presentation, he explained all the benefits and then showed us the packages that might fit our budgets.
Clarence Ahlschlager was the Shiner Blackout winner and he won a pair American Legion drive-thru meal tickets donated by Ruben Rodriguez, American Legion member.
