City of La Grange offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Waste Management will not have a holiday and will run their normal garbage schedule.

Patriotic Concert At Festival Hill Celebrates the 4th of July

Round Top Festival Institute will be celebrating the Fourth of July with the annual Patriotic Concert on Sunday, June 30 at 3 p.m. The concert will begin with a rousing rendition of Francis Scott Key’s “The Star-Spangled Banner.” More American music is on the repertoire including “Yellow Rose of Texas,” John Williams’ “Finale from Star Wars” and the “Armed Forces Salute.” Blue Bell Creameries will be serving an ice cream treat to concert-goers after the performance.

Festival Hill Spotlight: Yui Garcia

Festival Hill at Round Top, began its six-week orchestra intensive program on June 14. Yui Garcia, a participant in the Festival Hill Orchestra, is the orchestra French hornist. He’s been playing the French horn since sixth grade, and he’s continued through college where he’s studying French horn performance along with data analysis at Northwestern University. He will be a senior this year.

Fire Chief Speaks to Farm Bureau

On Tuesday, June 18, Flatonia Fire and Rescue Chief Chris Swenning (right) gave a very interesting and informative presentation on “ Prevention of Fires” to the Flatonia/Cistern Farm Bureau members at their meeting. He urged everyone to make sure they have their 911 address number sign visible from the roadway so that emergency service responders can find you.
