Muras Brothers Receive Quilts of Valor
The Colorado Valley Quilt Guild recently had quilts of valor presented to Edwin and Ivan Muras for their service during the Vietnam conflict. Edwin joined the Navy Seabees following high school (1967) and was honorably discharged in 1970, after having served two tours of duty in Vietnam among other stations. Ivan joined the Navy Seabees following his completion of high school in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1972, after serving one tour of duty in Vietnam and finalized his service in Morocco. Edwin served his first tour in Vietnam at Phu Bai and the brothers both, through special request, were based near Da Nang for Edwin’s second tour of duty and Ivan’s first tour of duty in Vietnam. Because both were born and raised at the Hostyn community, and after their service in the Navy, both returned to Hostyn to raise their own families and remain lifelong parishioners of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, their quilts were presented to each of them by Father Felix Twumasi, recent pastor of Holy Rosary. Representing the quilt guild in the presentation were Joyce Muras, sister-in-law of the brothers and Helen Muras, Edwin’s wife.
