Three highly talented student writers, eight remarkable women of our local area, and three other women important in Texas history were honored Sunday afternoon, March 9, at the Casino Hall in La Grange. The event, billed as “Women Making History,” was sponsored by the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas, with financial support from a number of local businesses and individuals, and drew over a hundred attendees.

The La Grange Knights of Columbus will host a drivethru only Fish Fry Fundraiser Friday, March 14 from 4-6 p.m. at the La Grange K of C Community Center located at 190 S. Brown St. in La Grange. The meal will consist of fried fish, hushpuppies, cole slaw, pinto beans and buttered potatoes for $15 per plate. The meal is on a first come, first served basis.

The La Grange High School Band had a spring break to remember as they played a concert Monday night at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York City (right). The kids also got to enjoy sightseeing in NYC during their trip, which they have been raising money for all year. The band was presented a Gold Award for their performance, accepted below by head band director Christopher Cooper.

Folks around the La Grange Springs Apartments are complaining about mounds of garbage at the entrance to the complex. The trash has been piling up for weeks and blowing down FM 2145 and into neighboring property.

The move will allow the City to engage in Tax Increment Financing (TIF), a property tax funding mechanism for infrastructure projects that can be used to attract developers within the TIRZ.
