Garbage Piles Up at New Apartments

Folks around the La Grange Springs Apartments are complaining about mounds of garbage at the entrance to the complex. The trash has been piling up for weeks and blowing down FM 2145 and into neighboring property.

The Record called and left an email with the apartment’s management company, but they have not responded. We visited the apartments on Monday. A person there told us that the complex’s garbage service with Waste Management had been cut off and they’re in the process of restarting the service.

We also reached out to Waste Management, which owns the dumpsters on the property, and they provided the following response: “At WM, we prioritize servicing our communities in an efficient and timely manner. Due to company policy, we cannot disclose the specific customer dynamics that led to the initial non-service; ... I can confirm that service for this customer has ended, and the containers are being removed within the next 48 hours.”

La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery said she’s quite alarmed at the messy situation.

“It doesn’t look good for La Grange,” she said.

Dockery said she spoke with her staff this week to find out if the City could do anything about it. But the property lies just outside the City Limits.

Accordingly, Dockery said the City has no authority to act.

The apartment complex opened in 2023. Construction started in 2021.

As reported in the Record at the time, the apartments were built by developers with funding through a tax credit program. The developers received credits for federal income tax liability. In exchange, they agreed to set rents at affordable rates for lower-income tenants.
