LG KC Fish Fry

The La Grange Knights of Columbus will host a drivethru only Fish Fry Fundraiser Friday, March 14 from 4-6 p.m. at the La Grange K of C Community Center located at 190 S. Brown St. in La Grange. The meal will consist of fried fish, hushpuppies, cole slaw, pinto beans and buttered potatoes for $15 per plate. The meal is on a first come, first served basis.

Rosary Crusade

KJZT St. Anne’s Society No. 10, Fayetteville, is coordinating a Public Square Rosary Crusade in support of traditional marriage. Everyone is invited to join in praying the Rosary on the Fayetteville square, Saturday, March 15 at noon. KJZT Family Life is a Fraternal Benefit Society founded in 1894 by Czech catholic women. Now offering memberships to all Texans, the fraternal organization is committed to strengthening its members’ lives through Catholic faith and community service while offering financial security.

For the Record on Page A2 & A4 The Colorado County Wildlife Management Association’s (CCWMA) Banquet is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the Columbus Hall in Columbus.There is no cost to attend. Meal tickets will be available for purchase for a barbecue meal at 6 p.m. There will be a demonstration on the use of the Pig Brig Trapping System by Aaron Sumrall as well as a presentation on the status and management efforts of waterfowl by TPWD Wetland/Waterfowl Specialist Stephen McDowell. Enjoy card raffles, bucket raffles, a buck scoring contest, drawing for the big raffle, and vendors with merchandise to look over and purchase. The 2024 Scholarship winners and the 2024 Whitetail Contest winners will be recognized. All Wildlife Management Association members are encouraged to attend and the general public is also invited. St. Patrick’s Day Concert

Round Top Family Library will present The Red Barn Crows, Louis Sellers and Craig Dinsmor on Sunday, March 16 from 4-6 p.m. at the Annex Porch. Come enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day Concert on the annex lawn and wear your green. Bring your own chair, blanket, snacks and drinks. This event is free and open to the public.

VFW Post 5254 & Auxiliary to Meet

On Tuesday, March 18, Fayette Memorial VFW Post No. 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet in the VFW Post Home at the La Grange Fairgrounds. The Auxiliary meets at 5 p.m. and at 6 p.m. the Post and Auxiliary will enjoy a meal after which the Post meets. Potential members are invited to attend.

Winedale Zoom Talk

The Infamous Prisoner: San Jacinto, Santa Anna, and the Texas Warship Invincible. On Tuesday, March 18 at noon, historian Jim Beville will tell the little-known story Santa Anna’s eight-month incarceration in Texas following his defeat at the Battle of San Jacinto. The chain of events that took place after his defeat and agreement to withdraw troops, the Treaty of Velasco, his guarantee of safe passage home on a Texas warship, its repudiation, a lynch mob, a second confinement followed by a bizarre plot to free him all led to Santa Anna being held as a prisoner of war in Brazoria county in the summer and fall of 1836. Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau Meeting Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau Dinner and 2025 quarterly meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 18, at the American Legion Hall in Flatonia. Social hour will start at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be David Urban, Bookkeeping and Tax Services. A business meeting will follow the potluck meal. Members are asked to bring a meat casserole, salad, or a dessert dish.

Republican Women General Meeting The public is invited to attend the Fayette County Republican Women General Meeting on Wednesday, March 19, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Drive, in La Grange. Lunch is available for $20. Guest speaker will be Treniss Evans. Treniss is the founder of Condemned USA. He was a defendant of his own prejudicial prosecution from the Department of Justice following the events of Jan. 6. His organization has been diligently combating the DOJ inside the courts since 2021 and have spoken to roughly 400+ Jan. 6 defendants. Condemned USA has provided necessary financial and investigative aid to countless defendants since the birth of Condemned USA and continues to fight daily for Americans who have had their rights stripped by the Department of Justice. Round Top has the largest design/antique show in the country. The Square Fair on the Courthouse Square is looking for upscale artists and artisans to show/sell their creative art on the square during the Spring Antiques show March 22-30. You must show in a white tent and spaces will be sold in multiples of 10x10 spacing. A safe, secure spot for you to show your art and security will be provided for $525 for the entire nine day show. La Grange Band Booster Club Meal

The La Grange Band Booster Club spring meal will be held Thursday, March 27, drive-thru only, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at La Grange High School. The meal includes beef tips, buttered noodles, squash casserole, tossed salad, roll, and a brownie prepared by Koopmann Catering. Tickets are $14 a plate. Tickets can be picked up at The Fayette County Record and ask for Theresia.

Chess Tournament

The 3rd Annual Habitat Gambit Chess Tournament benefiting Fayette County Habitat for Humanity will be on Saturday, March 29 at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 E. Pearl Street in La Grange. There will be three rounds (G15). BYO chess clock or phone with chess clock app. Primary division for ages 5-16 and senior division for ages 17 and up. This is a non-sanctioned event so no rating will be awarded. Entry fee is $10 which is payable at check-in from 9-9:15 a.m. on March 29. Pre-registration is recommended as space is limited. Warda Bunch ShowFund BBQ Pork Meal

The Warda Bunch Show Fund will have their barbecue pork fundraiser on Saturday, April 5. Barbecue pork butts will be sold by the piece, approximately 2.5-4lbs each, for $12/lb. 16 oz. cups of sauce are available for $3 each. Orders will be taken for the number of pieces you would like (not by the pound). Pick up at the Holy Cross picnic grounds in Warda from 4-6 p.m. Preorders only by calling the Holy Cross church office at (979) 2423333 (leave a message) by Wednesday, March 26. Proceeds go toward continued support of exhibitors at the Lee County Junior Livestock Show.

Alleluia for Spring Concert April 7 The Brenham Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Joanne Clark, will welcome springtime on Monday April 7 at 7 p.m. with a concert titled “Alleluia for Spring.” The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 2310 Airline Drive in Brenham, with a reception following the event. The performance will include “Regina Coeli” by Mozart (which includes three direct quotations from Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus), the beautiful Mozart “Ave Verum Corpus,” and Randall Thompson’s “Alleluia.” The second half of the concert will include many familiar songs from “The Sound of Music.” Guest instrumentalists will accompany the Chorale with strings, oboes, and trumpets. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.
