The Lower Colorado River Authority’s proposed coal-fired electric generating plant near Fayetteville might be used for virtually pollutionfree solid waste disposal, according to a report from the governor’s office presented at a county-wide solid waste disposal clinic at La Grange. A representative said that up to 30% solid waste could be substituted for coal and fed pneumatically into the fires. A pollution reduction could possibly be realized since there was little sulfur in garbage. St. Louis was already burning solid wastes and San Antonio was planning a coal wastefired electric generator. Down the road, the report predicted the corridor between San Antonio and Waco could perhaps serve as an exchange route for recycling materials between major waste-burning sites and industrial sites.

February was a month of service, and giving, for Texas Exes The Fayette County Texas Exes hosted a county-wide food drive, collecting over 400 lbs. of food for AMEN Food Pantry in La Grange, Schulenburg Area Food Pantry and Flatonia Area Food Pantry. Thanks to everyone who donated food, and the businesses who helped promote the Food Drive. Texas Exes is comprised entirely of volunteers whose mission is to promote and provide scholarships for Fayette County High School graduates planning on attending the University of Texas at Austin.

The La Grange High School One-Act Play competed at the UIL 22-4A District meet at the Caldwell High School Lou-Ida Marsh Auditorium on Thursday, March 6. The troupe performed “These Shining Lives” by Melanie Marnich and received one of three advancing play awards. They will compete at the One-Act Play Bi-District Contest at Brookshire Royal High School on Saturday, March 29. The LHS OAP is under the direction of Alizabeth Calhoun.
