Page Mund of Needville was flying his plane from Austin to Wharton Thursday afternoon, July 2, when he was forced to make an emergency landing on State Highway 71 west of La Grange. The incident happened around 3 p.m.

The Round Top Town Council voted last Thursday to sue Fayette County over a dispute over ownership of the historic precinct courthouse on the Town Square. The dispute arose over a year ago after Round Top Mayor Judith Vincent and the Town Council contemplated some major renovations to the building.

The front end of a Continental Trailways bus landed in the bedroom of Jimmie Washington at West Point during a three-vehicle traffic accident. The mishap, which occurred just west of the narrow Southern Pacific underpass at 4:45 p.m., involved a 1972 Silver Eagle Continental Trailways bus, a 1971 Ford U-Haul truck and a 1976 Olds four-door sedan. Although there was significant property damage, miraculously, no one was seriously hurt.

The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, July 18 as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick-Up Day for hard to dispose of bulky items. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by Friday evening. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items for La Grange Utility Customers within the city limits.

During a special ceremony Saturday on the courthouse lawn, a marker was unveiled honoring John Sorrell, who fought in the Revolutionary War and later moved to Fayette County and died here. A QR code on the marker allows visitors to learn more about his story.
