Senior Connections A Hub For Active Seniors

Nestled in the heart of Schulenburg, Senior Connections has quickly become a beloved gathering place for active seniors in Fayette and Colorado Counties. With satellite locations in Weimar and Flatonia, this free activity center provides a warm and inviting atmosphere where seniors aged 55 and up can come together, enjoy delicious home-cooked meals, and engage in stimulating activities.
A contingent of Senior Connections members traveled to Gonzales recently to tour Gonzales’s important role in Texas history, visiting many sites where the actions took place. We had two knowledgeable guides sharing the story. The tour ended at the History Museum, where we gathered to view one of the cannons and many fascinating displays from the day.

Battling the Dreaded Squash Vine Borer

If you grow squash around here, you’re probably familiar with the squash vine borer. This pest starts out as an egg laid on squash stems by the adult moth, which looks sort of like a red wasp.
The dreaded squash vine borer – I found this adult vine borer moth in my garden a few weeks ago. I took this photo on May 5. This week I pulled up one of my zucchini plants after it curled up and died from vine borer damage. Photo by Andy Behlen

Adopt Me

Simon and Theodore are still at the shelter! They are sitting in their kennel hoping a hero comes by. These young boys were brought to us as strays and have been waiting for their forever home ever since.
