Couple Stuck in Courthouse Elevator

Two people got stuck in the elevator at the Fayette County Courthouse in La Grange Monday afternoon, Jan. 12. A woman and a man had just completed business on the third floor of the courthouse around 2 p.m. and were leaving to go downstairs in the elevator on the north side of the courthouse when it malfunctioned. They called 911 for help. Officer Kevin Currington of the La Grange Police Department responded. By that time, courthouse maintenance manager Steven Svec was able to get the elevator to stop at the first floor. But the door wouldn’t open.

Wendish Society Scholarship Fundraiser Meal Set for Jan. 25

The Wendish Society will have their annual scholarship fundraiser drive-thru meal on Sunday, Jan. 25. The menu is grilled pork steaks, noodles, corn, green beans, pickles, and a bowl of Wendish Bird Wedding Soup. The cost is $15 per plate, pre-sale only by Jan. 21. Reserve tickets at museum@texaswendish.org or by calling the museum at (979) 3662441. Drive thru/to go only from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Serbin Picnic Grounds. Proceeds benefit the TWHS scholarship program. In 2025 there were 25 Texas Wendish Heritage Scholarship recipients totaling $23,000 awarded. They greatly appreciate your support for the Wendish students.

Foster Creek Bridge to Close on Jan. 26 for Replacement

Fayette County Pct. 4 Commissioner Drew Brossmann would like to inform the public that starting Monday Jan., 26, the bridge on Foster Creek Rd. at Fosters Creek will be closed for replacement. This is a TxDOT bridge grant project and the projected construction estimated timeline is approximately 5-6 months.
