Couple Stuck in Courthouse Elevator

Two people got stuck in the elevator at the Fayette County Courthouse in La Grange Monday afternoon, Jan. 12. A woman and a man had just completed business on the third floor of the courthouse around 2 p.m. and were leaving to go downstairs in the elevator on the north side of the courthouse when it malfunctioned. They called 911 for help. Officer Kevin Currington of the La Grange Police Department responded. By that time, courthouse maintenance manager Steven Svec was able to get the elevator to stop at the first floor. But the door wouldn’t open. Currington and Svec are pictured above as Svec uses a special key to manually open the door. The pair inside walked out unharmed. “It was a little surreal,” the woman said. The elevator remained closed for repairs as of Wednesday.
