When it seems like we skipped fall and went straight on into winter with that cold front last week many of my female readers or readers with long hair like mine noticed the all too common occurrence that comes along with the cold weather, frizzy hair. As it seems to happen every fall, once nice and neat hair looks like we just rubbed a balloon on our heads as our hair seems to have a mind of its own at that point. The long sought out cause of the problem calls back upon one of my first articles with humidity and the lack of it during the fall and winter months. When we get these harsh cold fronts like last week, the cold air is denser than warm air and since the air is more tightly packed it cannot hold as much water in the air as the hot air can. This same property can be seen with making sweet tea, if you try and put the sugar in when you have ice in it you see that sugar piles up at the bottom of the glass, but if you either heat the tea up or add the sugar before the ice it will then all dissolve into the tea. The warmer the solution, whether it is the air or tea can hold more particles in it the hotter it is, so with the cold air we have now it saps the humidity out of the air, which in turn dries out hair making it all frizzy.
