The Ledbetter Lane of Lights Cancelling 2020 Season

A Fayette County Christmas tradition is being cancelled for this year because of the pandemic.

The Ledbetter Lane of Lights, which has taken thousands of folks on a magical hay ride through the country and to a Christmas Village, will not be held.

The event is sponsored every year by the Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department with the support of the Ledbetter Ladies Homemakers Club.

“It’s better to cancel this year and look forward to next year,” said one of the organizers Chad Allen of Ledbetter, in a statement to the newspaper. “We already have made new characters for this year’s displays and reworked old ones.

“There will be a static display set up, as always, to be viewed by those driving on Highway 290.”

Allen said alternatives to cancellation were considered.

“The pandemic restricts social gatherings, so we looked into having the idea of a drivethrough, but a drive through eliminates the reasons people come to the lane,” Allen said.

Those main draws, Allen said, are the hay ride itself, visiting with Santa and the live entertainment, refreshments, and fire pits at the Christmas Village.

And with a drive-through, Allen said, “if we were to have a half-inch of rain the driving road would become too muddy for ordinary vehicles.”

“We will be up and running in 2021.”
