With many of the annual Halloween events cancelled because of pandemic precautions, locals had to get creative to celebrate the holiday safely. Heading into election day, more people have already voted in the state of Texas than did back in 2016 during early voting and election day combined. That 2016 vote total was 8,969,226, an all-time record then.

La Grange resident Annabelle Ayres won big at the National Sporting Clays Shooting Awards on Oct. 25. She is shown above, center, with her $3,000 in prize money. This most recent title as 2020 Ladies National Sporting Clays Champion adds to Ayres already illustrious shooting career. This is her sixth national title, she is the 2020 Ladies Team USA Captain and she is a two-time Ladies World Champion.

Local author and historian Charles Hebert has recently completed his second novel entitled “ On the Run!!! ” the story of Texas from 1790-1836. Inspired after a visit to San Felipe de Austin in the fall of 2018, along with fellow historians Greg Walker, Rox Ann Johnson and Maria Rocha, Hebert became intrigued with the story of Stephen F.

The organizers of the 8th Annual Monster Dash were excited to welcome perfect weather and a spooktacular crowd for their event on Saturday, October 24, at Jack & Mary’s in Schulenburg. The event was kicked off with the Halloween Themed Bake-off which scared up some yummy entries.

The Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports that officers responded to 106 calls for service and four reportable incidents were investigated during the week of Oct. 17-23.

The City of Fayetteville is having a turkey and dressing fundraiser dinner on Thursday, Nov. 5, benefitting the renovation of the EMS quarters. The dinner is catered by Peters BBQ and is drive-thru only. The cost is $12 per plate. Pick up is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Fayetteville Community Center. Tickets are available at the following locations: Fayetteville Bank, Fayetteville Store, West Side Shamrock, Peters BBQ, Orsak’s Cafe, Joe’s Place, and the City of Fayetteville Office.

The 2020 Round Top Wine Fest will be held this coming weekend, Nov. 6 through 8. Guests will enjoy live music on Friday, sample several different wines on Saturday and the weekend will wrap-up with brunch at participating restaurants on Sunday morning. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at exploreroundtop.com/winefest.

The Lee County Texas Veterans Association will dedicate their newly installed Honor Park located in the City of Giddings, Veterans Park on Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. Local city, county, state, and military officials will dedicate the Honor Park with a military flyover and a ceremony that will include music.
