Bastrop Gun Store Burglarized

• The Bastrop Police Department is asking the public for help in identifying persons of interest in a burglary of a business earlier last week. On Monday, Oct. 26 about 7:05 a.m. police were dispatched to Crosshairs Texas, a gun store at 1102 College St., after it was burglarized and several guns were stolen, according to police. Crosshairs Texas said in a Facebook post Monday that at 2:50 a.m. that day, three people wearing masks destroyed the storefront, including a heavy glass door, and stole “many, many valuable items.” The post said three people approached the shop from the back alley and broke fences to other homes as they made their way to the store. Crosshairs Texas has a security system, and because of it the three people were only in the store for less than 30 seconds and took only what they could carry, the store said on Facebook.“Luckily, our cameras caught the incident, and we have insurance to cover what they stole,” the post said. “But that does not excuse thieves and the chaos they’ve left behind.”The post asks residents to be on the lookout for “higher-end handguns” that are listed for sale or trade. The brands of the stolen guns listed in the post are Smith & Wesson, SIG Sauer, Taurus, Heckler & Koch, Llama, and High Standard. Bastrop’s criminal investigations division is asking anyone with information on the identity of the persons of interest or on the burglary to contact Det. Glenn at (512) 332-8608.

• On October 20 at approximately 8:57 p.m. Elgin emergency communications received several 911 calls regarding shots fired in the 500 block of Brenham St. Patrol officers responded to the scene and located evidence, near the intersection of E. Brenham St. and McDade Rd., suggesting that a shooting did occur. As officers were investigating, additional 911 calls were received, reporting shots fired in the area of Lexington Rd. and North Avenue F. Officers responded and located a second crime scene. Officers were able to collect evidence to suggest several different calibers of a firearm were discharged on both scenes. At this time, there have been no suspects or shooting victims identified. There were several structures located near the crime scenes that sustained damage as a result of the gunfire. The Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating the incident and the investigation suggests there were at least two separate groups of individuals chasing one another through the city and that at least one of the groups did discharge several rounds at the other. It is believed the two groups know one another and there is no direct threat to the public.

• Lisa Marie Wahed, 56 of Ledbetter, was driving a 2000 Nissan Sentra sedan southbound at 10:10 p.m. on her way to work at the Cefco convenience store truck stop on Hwy. 290 East when she struck a black horse in the roadway on FM 180, about 6.5 miles northeast of Giddings on Monday, Oct. 26. The car went into the west ditch, striking a tree and spinning clockwise before catching on fire. Wahed died instantly and the owner of the horse has not been identified.
• A high-speed pursuit ended with a crash and an arrest on multiple charges shortly after midnight on Oct. 21. James Bryce Busby, 20 of Caldwell, was driving a blue 1994 GMC Yukon northbound on County Road 333 while evading arrest when he approached a sharp curve to the right at a speed unsafe to successfully negotiate the curve. The driver attempted to steer to the right and the vehicle went into a side skid, traveling off the roadway into the ditch, where it rolled onto its left side. Busby was taken into custody and transported to St. Mark’s for medical clearance. He was booked into the Lee County Jail for evading arrest/detention with vehicle and fugitive warrant/motion to proceed/possession of a controlled substance.

• The Austin County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on a recent ATM burglary in Industry. On Oct. 20, at least three subjects broke into the ATM at the drive-thru of Industry State Bank at around 3 a.m. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the suspects used a blue Ford F-250 pickup to tear into the machine. The driver remained in the vehicle while two others hooked a chain to the ATM to rip it apart. The suspects, who all wore hoodies and gloves, stole the cash from the cash boxes in the machine. Bank officials estimate the damage to the ATM to be over $50,000. Officers located the abandoned truck, which contained the cash boxes from the ATM, a couple of blocks away behind Tegeler Chevrolet. The truck was determined to have been stolen from a Prairie View apartment complex earlier that morning. Surveillance video shows a silver four-door SUV with dark rims traveling with the stolen truck. The Sheriff’s Office reports the suspects appear to have driven from the scene on Highway 159 E. towards Bellville. This is the same ATM that was unsuccessfully burglarized twice earlier this year, once in May and again in August. The burglary is under investigation.
