The Busted Oak Cellars held a ribbon cutting in February. Busted Oak Cellars celebrated their first anniversary with a long awaited ribbon cutting. This winery sits on 16 acres and offers a serene environment for all to enjoy. In early February, we mentioned that Fayetteville ISD 2020 graduate and Baylor freshman Miles Gillette-Bockhorn had been named a finalist in the Baylor University Concerto Competition in the keyboard (piano/organ) division. He has now been declared the winner. He performed the Piano Concerto No. 2 in E Major, Op. 59, by Moritz Moszkowski with Dr. Rajung Yang accompanying.

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a candidate forum for all persons running for a City of Ellinger position. Ellinger residents will go to the polls on May 1, 2021 to elect a mayor and two commissioners. The last election was to elect interim candidates. Residents will also be voting to approve a one cent sales tax. If residents approve the sales tax, collection of said tax would begin in October of 2021. The forum is scheduled for Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m. in the dining hall of the Ellinger Community Center. Everyone is invited to hear from the candidates seeking election. They will be discussing various issues and voters can ask questions.

The 2021-2022 American Quarter Horse Association Executive Committee was elected at the 2021 AQHA Convention in San Antonio recently. Kenneth Banks of Schulenburg was elected second vice president of the organization.

A reorganized stitchery group is forming in Weimar. The group welcomes anyone who is interested in any handwork craft. This includes experienced or beginning crafters in knitting, crochet, counted cross stitch, embroidery, or any hand work that can be carried to the meeting. The group will meet the first and third Thursday of each month at Faith Lutheran Church in Weimar. Currently, two thirds of the group are fully vaccinated. The Schulenburg/Weimar Area Parents as Teachers (PAT) were excited to hold their first in person Group Connection this year on Tuesday, March 23 at the First United Methodist Church. Sixty-eight parents, children, and volunteers participated in the event.
