Ellinger Chamber Hosting Candidate Forum May 1

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a candidate forum for all persons running for a City of Ellinger position. Ellinger residents will go to the polls on May 1, 2021 to elect a mayor and two commissioners. The last election was to elect interim candidates. Residents will also be voting to approve a one cent sales tax. If residents approve the sales tax, collection of said tax would begin in October of 2021. The forum is scheduled for Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m. in the dining hall of the Ellinger Community Center. Everyone is invited to hear from the candidates seeking election. They will be discussing various issues and voters can ask questions.

Worship Services

The Shared Lutheran Ministry of Fayette County will have the following Lenten worship services: Maundy Thursday (Conspiracy-Jesus), April 1-Rutersville at 6 p.m. with Holy Communion and stripping the altar; Good Friday (Seven Last Words from the Cross)-April 2 at 2 p.m. in Fayetteville. Phil Oestreich, will be live streaming/recording the services and uploading them to Facebook and You Tube for those wishing to participate from home.

Easter is April 4. A festive Easter worship has been planned for all four SLM congregations and will include Holy Communion. Ellinger-8 a.m.; Warrenton-8:30 a.m.; Rutersville-10 a.m.; Fayetteville-10:30 a.m. All are welcome. Services will also be broadcast at noon on KTIM radio and on YouTube and Facebook.

Easter Bake Sale

St. John Lutheran Church of Ellinger will be sponsoring an Easter Bake Sale on Saturday, April 3 at the church from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Chili dogs will be available along with a variety of bake goods. Donations of any kind of baked items will be appreciated. There will also be an Easter egg hunt for the Ellinger Community children ages ten and under. The egg hunt will get underway at 11:30 a.m. on the church grounds. For more information, you may call (979) 966- 7710 or (979) 966-3455.

Junior Livestock Show and Sale

The Fayette County Junior Livestock Show and Sale was held Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27. Brylee Brugger showed a pair of lambs. This was her first show and her animals placed fifth and seventh.

Rheagan Karisch also participated at the event. She won first place with her steer, Midnight, in the light weight class. She went on to win Champion Junior Showman in the steer competition. She proceeded to show her new E-6 heifer, Queenie. They won second place. She won third place with exotic haired heifer Scarlett, and third place with beefmaster heifer Isabella with week old baby Bellamee by her side. Rheagan went on to win Champion Junior Showmanship in the heifer competition. She won belt buckles for both showmanship events. Additionally she entered a German chocolate dream cake in the cake division and won third place. Congratulations to all the Fayette County exhibitors—all are winners.

Fayetteville Brethren Church

Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Other services are at Industry Brethren – parking lot services on the second, third and fourth Saturdays at 3 p.m.; In-person services are at Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Facebook page.

Ellinger VFD

The Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. It will be finalizing plans for the annual fundraiser.

Ellinger VFD Fundraiser

The Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department is planning its Annual Feast and Fundraiser. It has been scheduled for Sunday, April 25. There will be a BBQ chicken and sausage lunch served with all the trimmings. No walk ups will be allowed, drive thru only. Additionally there will be a live auction held outdoors under the pavilion. Currently firemen are selling tickets for the raffle. Contact them early because they usually sell out fast. Posters and other notifications will be forthcoming to inform the public of the changes in this year’s event.

Ellinger C of C

The Ellinger Chamber is planning a city wide garage sale in Ellinger on Saturday, April 10 beginning at 7:30 a.m. Call Miranda for more details or visit www.ellingertexas.com.

Ellinger Hermann Sons

The Ellinger Hermann Sons lodge met on Monday, March 15 at 6 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station. President Elaine Koehl opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag and a prayer. There were eight members and one guest present. The financial report and audit were presented by Jerry Krenek, secretary. Annie Mueller made a motion to accept the report and the motion was seconded by Dennis Niesner. The motion passed. Under new business, the lodge voted to make a monetary donation to the Hermann Sons Retirement Home in memory of Dorothy Selzer. Donny Koehl made a motion to donate $25 to the food pantry for Join Hands Day. The motion was seconded by Diane Marusik, and the motion passed. David Koehl and Gerald Schulmeier were recognized for birthdays, and Annie and Allen Mueller for their wedding anniversary. Jerry Krenek won the door prize and Donnie Koehl collected the Money pot. The meeting was adjourned at 8 p.m. and the group enjoyed pizza, desserts, and fellowship. This was the first meeting since covid invaded our society last year and the group enjoyed their time together.

Ellinger Sewer and Water

The Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply Corporation will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station. All members are welcome to attend.
