La Grange Police arrested a local man for drug possession and driving without a valid license on Tuesday, May 4. According to a report from Police Chief David Gilbreath, Officer John Wostarek stopped a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the 1900 block of State Highway 159 on Tuesday.

Paw Paw’s Firehouse Cafe near Carmine will host Warrior’s Weekend on May 14-15, a big celebration to raise money for Warrior’s Refuge, a nonprofit committed to transforming the lives of homeless veterans.

May 11-14, 1971 Schulenburg City Manager Lewis Nix reported that the lights at the new city pavilion had been shot out and other damage had occurred at the Little League ballpark. Disturbed over the increasing amount of city property being defaced or destroyed, the Schulenburg City Council voted to pay $50 to anyone providing information leading to a vandalism conviction.

The biggest little town in Texas, Round Top, population 90, celebrated its 150th anniversary party with a day full of celebrations all across town. The events started at the town square at 10 a.m. There were multiple concerts, tours and historical events, and kids activities. Here are some images of the festivities.

A $20,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority will help pay for new shade structures at one of the city’s most popular playgrounds. The Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with $31,000 in matching funds from the City of La Grange, will cover the cost of installing a fabric shade canopy above the playground at Randolph Park.

La Grange City Staff held a retirement party for outgoing Mayor Janet Moerbe, who has served the City for 33 years, first as a city councilwoman and the last 20 years as Mayor. The celebration took place Friday afternoon on the grounds of the La Grange Public Library. City employees and officials from other local governments stopped by to congratulate Moerbe on her retirement. She presided over one more City Council meeting on Monday, May 10. Former Governor Rick Perry, Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp and Fayette County Judge Joe Weber are old college buddies whose friendship was first forged as students at Texas A&M 52 years ago. Friday the trio of distinguished public servants reunited for a roundtable discussion about a wide-range of topics as part of the Texas Gulf Coast Press Association’s 83rd annual convention at Camp Tejas.

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (TCHCC) in La Grange invites you to pay homage to spring with a family Sunday filled with music, food, laughter, and remembrance during the 19th Annual Slavnost ‘May Fest’ on May 16.

AMEN continued to be busy in the month of April. 222 families were served for the month for a total of 588 individuals. A total of 70 volunteers served the pantry for a total of 175 hours. A total of 1,178 pounds of food were donated.

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce is busy getting ready for its 84th Annual Tomato Festival scheduled for Sunday, May 30 at the Ellinger Communtiy Center. There will be a drive thru Chamber fried chicken and sausage meal with all the trimmings.
