The Carmine Cemetery Decoration service will be held Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m. at the cemetery.

The Board of Missions and Board of Education will be hosting a Movie Night at SMLC Park on Saturday, May 22 at 6 p.m., and everyone is welcome. May is National Strawberry Month and National Barbecue Month. While both of those observances sound incredibly delicious and worth celebrating with our taste buds, there are also more serious observances this month, including Electrical Safety Month.

Pitman Cemetery held the annual Memorial Service on Sunday, May 2. The crowd was light, but it was wonderful to see people gathering again to pay homage to those who passed on before. Old hymns were sung with Don Kirby playing the piano and Martin Cherry Jr brought a wonderful message of hope and memories that being in the cemetery brings out.

Six graduating seniors from area high schools will each receive a $1,500 scholarship from Fayette Electric Cooperative’s 2021 Rural Scholarship Program, announced David Lehmann, president of the FEC board of directors and Gary Don Nietsche, general manager of the Cooperative.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on the morning of Sunday, May 2, around 11:30 a.m. Deputy Ryan Meagher conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 Chrysler 300 on FM 2436 near Kallus Rd. for a traffic violation.

Emil and Mendee Sodolak of Round Top are proud to announce the graduation of heir son, Lucas Emil Sodolak, from Texas A&M Galveston (TAMUG) on Dec. 12, 2020. Lucas received a Bachelor of Arts degree in maritime studies in the Aggie Gentlemen’s Society and served as treasurer of the Aggie Sportsmen Association. Lucas is a 2017 graduate of La Grange High School. Lucas is the grandson of Annie Sodolak and the late Leonard Sodolak of Round Top, Nancie Harlan of La Grange and Damon Harlan of Somerville. Lucas is pursuing a career in the environmental/maritime field.

Former Leopard Alyssa Wich is to graduate from Texas State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology at Wildcat Stadium on May 14. During her studies at Texas State, she has accumulated a resume toward her career with the La Grange Parks and Recreation Department, New Braunfels Parks and Recreation, Fisher State Park, and interning at the San Antonio Zoo.

Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department put out a vehicle fire Tuesday night, May 4. Schulenburg Fire Chief Jeff Proske said his department got the call around 9:30 p.m.
