La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath wants to reward drivers following the posted speed limit on La Grange’s busy streets. Yes, you read that right, if you are “caught” in the month of June following the posted speed limit on roads in the city limits, you will be rewarded with an HEB gift card. “Summer is right around the corner and with the expected increase in traffic, we want to make sure our locals are practicing safe driving measures” said Gilbreath.

The Hostyn Holy Rosary Society No. 23 presented a $200 rebate check from the St. Joseph’s table food drive to AMEN Food Pantry on Monday, May 17 to Linda Oltman the food bank representative. Lillian Kallus-president, Mary Vasek-AMEN Rep., Helen Janda-treasurer and Verlene Kuntschik-secretary were present. Due to the pandemic the food bank is grateful for any donations.

In support of education, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) Texas State Court awarded forty-one Memorial Scholarships totaling $47,500 to qualifying high school seniors of 2021. Courts throughout Texas were notified and asked to present the scholarships on behalf of the Texas State Court; and Court Annunciation No. 1962 in La Grange had sponsored eight winners.

Riley Beck of Flatonia graduated from Texas A&M University on Saturday, May 15 with a bachelor of science in agricultural economics and with magna cum laude honors. She will return to Texas A&M in the fall to pursue a master of agribusiness degree. Riley is the daughter of Ron and Kristi Beck.

La Grange Chief of Police, David Gilbreath confirmed that on Sunday evening May 30, between 11:30 p.m. and midnight, 40-year-old David Wayne Harrison Jr. of La Grange, was shot and killed at a River Valley Apartment complex on Koenig Lane, in La Grange.

A three-alarm fire on Guettermann Ehler Road south of O’Quinn sustained major damage from a fire on Tuesday, June 1. Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department and Flatonia Fire and Rescue responded initially.
