La Grange Chief of Police, David Gilbreath confirmed that on Sunday evening May 30, between 11:30 p.m. and midnight, 40-year-old David Wayne Harrison Jr. of La Grange, was shot and killed at a River Valley Apartment complex on Koenig Lane, in La Grange.
A large group of family and friends gathered at the apartment complex Monday afternoon as officers investigated the scene.
Chief Gilbreath said that this was an isolated incident with no known danger to the public.
La Grange Po lice are asking anyone with information about this case to contact the La Grange Police Department at (979) 968-5806.
The case remains under investigation by La Grange Police, and the Texas Rangers.
Gilbreath declined to give more specifics on the homicide, citing the ongoing investigation.
Harrison Jr. had lived in La Grange since was 14 and leaves behind a wife and two children, including a six-month-old son. He also had a child die in an auto accident several years ago, his father said.
“He had a heart of gold and loved his family,” one friend said.
Harrison Jr. was born in San Antonio where his father, David Harrison Sr. was stationed in the Air Force. The family later moved to Spain.
For a time Harrison Jr. lived with his mom in Florida before coming to La Grange in the mid-1990s to live with his dad, a La Grange native, who worked for 13 years at the Fayette Power Project. Eventually Harrison Sr. moved to Katy, but his son stayed in La Grange, working in Austin and more recently for a house leveling business, his father said.
“He’d had some problems but overall was a good person,” his father said. “He was spontaneous, outgoing, happy-go-lucky. He talked a lot, made everybody laugh, had a lot of friends.”
