CDA Court No. 1962 Announces 2021 State Memorial Scholarship Winners

In support of education, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) Texas State Court awarded forty-one Memorial Scholarships totaling $47,500 to qualifying high school seniors of 2021. Courts throughout Texas were notified and asked to present the scholarships on behalf of the Texas State Court; and Court Annunciation No. 1962 in La Grange had sponsored eight winners.

At the 7 p.m. meeting of Court Annunciation No. 1962 held Monday, May 24, in the Sacred Heart Church narthex meeting room, Court Annunciation Scholarship Co-Chairman Elizabeth Kallus congratulated and introduced the Texas State Court Memorial Scholarship winners and their qualifying CDA members while Regent Shirley Antosh presented the scholarships, after which each of the winners gave insight into their future plans. Also, helping prepare the presentation was Court Annunciation Scholarship Co-Chairman Stacy Ryza and committee member and photographer Veronica Olivares Garza.

Scholarship winners from La Grange High School were as follows: Receiving $2,500 scholarships were Megan Brothers whose mother is Darlene Brothers, and Lily Nygren whose mother is Tracy Nygren. Receiving a $2,000 scholarship was Mia Solorzano whose mother is Leticia Solorzano and sister is Sophia Solorzano. Receiving $500 scholarships were Adolfo “A.J.” Garza whose mother is Veronica Olivares Garza, Philip Matocha whose mother is Mary Matocha, Michael-Leah Hart whose mother is Suzanne Hart, and Allison Veilleux whose mother is Christine Kana. A $2,000 scholarship winner from Cypress Falls High School in Houston was Jonathan Cain whose grandmother is Delores Wood (mother is Gail Cain).
