Local Man Killed In Sunday Auto Accident on 609

La Grange’s Matthew Kosler died in a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning at the intersection of FM 609 and Mach Rd. in the O’Quinn area. The wreck happened around 8 a.m. We are still gathering details about this crash. Look for more in Friday’s paper.

City Council Puts a Yield on Manager’s Proposed Traffic Sign Study

The La Grange City Council took no action Monday night on a request from City Manager Jack Thompson to conduct a study into stop signs and yield signs around town. The study would involve mapping all of the current city-owned stop signs and yield signs, analyze criteria for additional signs based on the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), and then identify locations for additional stop and yield signs.

Legacy Brass Quintet Inspires Area Students with Concert and Hands-On Masterclasses

The Legacy Brass Quintet from Columbus State University recently put on a concert at Flatonia Baptist Church. Anne Marie Cherry, daughter of Martin and Nancy Cherry is a member of this group. The concert featured a variety of styles that showed the power and lyricism that brass instruments are known for and also provided an opportunity for the audience to meet and chat with the performers.

Stacie Brown Promoted at Round Top Family Library

Round Top Family Library (RTFL) is pleased to announce that Stacie Brown has been promoted to the position of Library Operations and Financial Services Lead, effective March 1. Stacie joined RTFL in 2023 as Bookkeeper and has served the organization with dedication, professionalism, and care.

The City of La Grange wishes to inform residents that, beginning Thursday, Feb. 19 the Municipal Court Clerk will move their office from the Police Department to La Grange City Hall, 155 E. Colorado St. Their office can be reached by calling City Hall at (979) 968-5805. While Municipal Court trials will still take place at 243 S. College St. any payments, pleas, or procedural questions should be directed to the Clerk at City Hall.

Record Goes to Winter Olympics in Italy

The Record made it to the Olympics in Cortina, Italy. Two of Myrna Thiessen’s daughters with their husbands, Marty and Rob Emmons (La Grange) along with Darla and Joe Niederhofer (Midland) went to support Joe’s nephew, Boone Niederhofer, as he competed on the USA Bobsled Team.
