Childcare Professionals Gather for Training Conference

On Feb. 7, the TexasA&M AgriLife Extension Service hosted the Multi-County Child Care Conference, drawing 173 childcare providers and directors representing more than 18 cities and towns across the region. The conference was coordinated by Austin, Fayette, and Wharton Counties and held at the Randolph Recreation Center in La Grange.

Kirkwood Leads Blinn-Schulenburg Art Class

Fernanda Kirkwood says she loves teaching art and what art can teach people. Kirkwood will serve as the instructor for an Exploring Art class offered this spring at the Blinn College-Schulenburg Campus.

Cities, Counties in Area See Sales Tax Declines

Sales tax payments to Texas towns and counties in February may indicate Santa didn’t have much of a Christmas. February rebates normally are the biggest monthly payments of the year, since they include sales made in December, reported and paid to the state in January and then rebated to the local governments in February.

LGISD Board Declines To Opt Into New State Oversight on Prayer

The Board of Trustees of La Grange ISD, at last Monday’s meeting, voted to not adopt a resolution establishing daily prayer time in school as it pertains to new Senate Bill 11. Superintendent Andy McHazlett gave the board reasons why he felt they should not adopt a resolution designating a daily prayer time.

LGISD Announces Personnel Hires and Departures

The La Grange ISD school board of trustees approved the contract renewals and extensions for the administrative staff for the 2026-2027 school year at the February meeting. Also approved was a oneyear probationary teacher contract for Darby Mueller at La Grange Elementary for the 2026-2027 school year.
