Round Top-Carmine Comeback Classic this Saturday

The RT-C Comeback Classic on Saturday, March 7 includes fish, fastballs, fun, and fellowship.

At the high school, alumni batting practice begins at 11 a.m. The home run derby begins at 12. There is a $5 entry fee which includes five swings and has four divisions, including elementary, Jr. High, high school, and alumni/open divisions. The Alumni baseball game begins at 1:30 p.m. R&R snow cones and concessions will be available.

At the Carmine Hall, happy hour and music start at 4 p.m. Alumni and winner recognition is at 4:45 p.m. A Fish Fry will be served beginning at 5 p.m. and a Cornhole Tourney ($50 per team) starts at 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for top cornhole teams.

Event tickets are $25 for regular tickets and $15 for RT-C students. They include all-you-can-eat fried fish, trimmings, tea and water, and two free drink tickets. Additional drinks are available for purchase (21 plus).

RT-C School News 

Congratulations to Round Top-Carmine San Antonio Heifer Exhibitors. Carter Marburger placed first with his Limousine Heifer and Libby Robertson placed second with her Angus Heifer.

Also, congratulations to the RT-C FFA Livestock and Vet Science teams that competed in Bell County. Second place Jr. Livestock results are: Lylah Robertson-sixth high individual; Luke Behnketenth high individual; Collyns Schatte-top thirty-five; and Morgan Williams-thirteenth place. Gretchen Sacks, Avery Nelius, Rebekah Sacks, and Caydan Nelius placed twentieth in the Vet Science division.

Both the Round Top-Carmine girls’ and boys’ basketball teams season came to an end when the girls were defeated by Nueces Canyon in the area game and the boys were defeated by Moulton in the bi-district game. Congratulations to both teams for advancing to the playoffs.

The high school baseball team plays at Manor on March 3 at 6 p.m., with New Tech as the opponent. The Alumni game is on March 7. The team plays a double-header on March 10 at Somerville with the first game at 10 a.m. Future Cub Club night is on March 17 when the team hosts Milano at 5:30 p.m.

FFA meets on March 4 at 6:30 p.m.

Spring Break is scheduled for March 9-13.

Bingo at Carmine Hall Bingo will be held at the Carmine Hall on Friday, March 6. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the games start at 6 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

There will be 12 regular games and two cover-all games. License number is 356789. Money goes toward renovations of the Carmine Hall. More information may be found at www.carminehall.org.

Bingo for Seniors 

Bingo for Seniors (60 and older plus guests) is on Sunday, March 8 from 2-4 p.m. at the Ledbetter Community Center. Doors open at 1:15 p.m.

Five dollars covers all games with prizes awarded for each game. Snacks and drinks are available for a donation. This is a non-profit community event for entertainment. Money collected is used for purchase of prizes and other expenses.

Carmine Cemetery Assoc. 

The Carmine Cemetery Association has started selling burial plots in section AA. The cost of each of these plots will be $550. The plots still available in sections A, B, and C will remain at $500 per site.

WELCA Meets 

The WELCA Unit of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met Feb. 12 with nine members present. They were Dianna Gerland, Sedalia Ullrich, Joys Baird, Leonita Sanders, Sharon Rhome, Diana Wunderlich, Joann Ullrich, Susan Ray, and Nancy Eilers.

Leonita Sanders opened the meeting with a devotion “The Hand of Love.”

The group decided to give $348 to sponsor a girl through Lutheran World Relief which would provide an opportunity for girls to stay in school around the world.

A donation of seven hundred fifty dollars will be made for the MLLC playground equipment fund.

AMEN in-gatherings included 60 pounds of food taken in August and 48 pounds in November.

One quilt was donated to the Lutherhill Gala; one-hundred nine quilts were sent to Lutheran World Relief; thirtyfour quilts taken to Camp For All; and ten fleece throws were donated to CASA in Bastrop.

Martin Luther Lutheran Church WELCA hosted the Western Cluster Fall Gathering. Information was given about Feed the Need in La Grange and $200 was given to the organization.

In addition to the quilts, Lutheran World Relief shipment also included 32 school kits and 72 personal care kits. A monetary donation of $200 was sent to LWR with designation for the Hill Country Flood Relief. $40 was given for U-Haul expenses.

AMEN in-gatherings are in February, May, August, and November.

Cancelled postage stamps are being collected for Stamps for the Wounded.

WELCA banquet will be on June 3. The theme will be “Feeding the Multitude.” Members may provide food for table decorations and then give it to AMEN. Thankoffering service and meal will be on Nov. 8. It may be a musical service.

Western Cluster Spring Happening is at St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Columbus on April 18. Theme is “God is near: Hope for the Weary Heart.” Offering amount will be $200.

The group will donate three-hundred dollars to the Super Bowl of Caring.

MLLC News 

Senior Citizens meet Wednesday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. for meal pick-up and dominoes.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top is hosting all the Lenten worship services for the Crossroads Lutheran Ministry on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. with the Rev. John David Nedbalek leading the services. On March 4, Bethlehem Lutheran Church will provide the meal at 6 p.m.

AA meeting is Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Worship with Holy Communion, observing the Third Sunday of Lent, is Sunday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ken Wiess serving as the guest pastor.

Quilting is Monday beginning at 9 a.m. in the Mission and Ministry Building.

Domino party is Monday at 1 p.m.

Recycling Trailers 

The recycling trailers are at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from 1-4 p.m.

Clean milk cartons should be kept separate from the other No. 2 plastics. They also accept clean No. 1 plastic bottles and jugs. Note that numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 plastics and plastic bags are not accepted.
