Legacy Brass Quintet Inspires Area Students with Concert and Hands-On Masterclasses
The Legacy Brass Quintet from Columbus State University recently put on a concert at Flatonia Baptist Church. Anne Marie Cherry, daughter of Martin and Nancy Cherry is a member of this group. The concert featured a variety of styles that showed the power and lyricism that brass instruments are known for and also provided an opportunity for the audience to meet and chat with the performers.
Legacy Brass Quintet is the performing ensemble of the brass faculty of the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University in Columbus, GA. These musicians are sought after performers, educators and recording artists. They started Legacy Brass to create opportunities to share their enthusiasm, artistry, and friendship with audiences and students.
Student school musicians were invited to bring their instruments and attend masterclasses after the concert. Legacy Brass split off to individually work with students on their own instruments. This gave local student musicians a chance to learn from highly trained and respected musicians of the professional caliber. Judges Contest
Nancie Blair traveled over to the Hope Community Livestock Show in Lavaca County for the cake judging contest. She was one of the TEEA group to do the hard job of judging the delicious cakes. There were many beautiful and delicious cakes to sample and make the hard decision of which was the best.
The cakes were all made by school aged children and the winners were later auctioned off to raise college scholarship funds. It was a hard job, but Nancie took one for the kids and enjoyed every bite of it.
New Grandbaby
James and I are once again grandparents. We traveled to Austin to meet this newest addition to the family. Jaxon Walter Ivy arrived on Tuesday, Feb. 24 weighing in at seven pounds fifteen ounces. Jaxon is the second son for Andy Ivy and Jenny Claire and is welcomed home by his big brother Ira.
Out and About
Martin and Nancy Cherry loved having their daughter, Anne Marie Cherry come in for a few days. Anne Marie was traveling with the Legacy Brass Quintet from Columbus, Georgia. She and some of her fellow musicians enjoyed some country time on the ranch and doing “ranchie things.”
Lane Rightmer arrived for a quick visit recently to spend some time with her parents Clay and Jennifer Rightmer.
Celebrating Birthdays
Several Muldoon ladies met for lunch recently to celebrate their February birthdays. Roberta Gullick, Vivian Villareal and Pam Knotts met at the home of Anne Wright, also a February birthday. The main course was Baked potatoes with all the fixins. Dessert was served by Pam Sheffield, another guest from Muldoon. This annual get together is such fun it is already on the calendar for next year.
Weather
The weather in Muldoon is dry and windy. This is becoming an issue for cattlemen in the area with grass getting shorter every day and water supplies going down.
Electric Line Maintainance Fayette Electric Coop is still very busy in the area clearing trees and brush from the electric lines and right of ways. Be aware that the tree trimmers are out and about in the area. They are working along the roads in many places, so take care when traveling in and around Muldoon.
