Fayette County Now Has 100 COVID Cases

The Fayette County Office of Emergency Management reported over the weekend the county’s 100th confirmed case of coronavirus. A fourth person in the county died from the disease over the weekend as well.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued new emergency orders Thursday that require every Texan with a few exceptions to wear a face covering in public.

"Wearing a face covering in public is proven to be one of the most effective ways we have to slow the spread of COVID-19,” said Abbott. “We have the ability to keep businesses open and move our economy forward so that Texans can continue to earn a paycheck, but it requires each of us to do our part to protect one another—and that means wearing a face covering in public spaces."

The Schulenburg City Council unanimously voted Tuesday afternoon to prohibit gatherings of more than 100 people in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The move came after Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued new emergency orders last week banning large gatherings statewide unless organizers obtained permission from local authorities. I

To the residents of Fayette County: Friday morning Governor Greg Abbot issued his 28th Executive Order which directed some significant changes to his previous orders. The changes mostly relate to bars, restaurants, rafting and tubing businesses and outdoor gatherings of 100 people or more. The Governor’s primary reason for issuing this order was the most recent increase in the spread of COVID-19 throughout the state. The rise in cases appears to be largely driven by certain types of activities which are specifically alluded to in his order. I will not go into the details of the Governor’s order as it is extremely clear and available for all on numerous media sites throughout the state. I specifically recommend you go to gov. texas.gov to get the details of the order and to better understand its applicability to Fayette County.

Coronavirus Cases Rise

The number of coronavirus cases in Fayette County continues to rise. As of Tuesday afternoon, there were 67 confirmed cases in the county. That includes 27 recoveries and two deaths. That figure of 67 is up by 25 from just a week ago.
