The City of La Grange Recreation Department has closed the Summer Day Camp at Randolph Rec Center for one week after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. Recreation director Janet Rangel issued the following statement Monday morning, June 22:

To Parents of the 2020 City of La Grange Recreation Department Summer Day Camp The City of La Grange Recreation Staff were notified last night - Saturday, June 20, 2020 - that a Staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. The Recreation Department has been following all the health, hygiene and safety protocols/guidelines as set forth by the American Camp Association (ACA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These safety standards and practices for staff includes the following Health Protocols (completed and documented Individually):

  • A daily check for cough, sore throat, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell chills, diarrhea, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, feeling feverish*, known close contact with others who have confirmed COVID-19 (*temperatures are taken upon entering the facility for their daily work shift and is recorded and documented on their Individual Health protocols checklist).
  • Each staff member has their shoes sprayed with MicroBan before entering the facility, must use antibacterial gel or sanitizer, complete forms and get temperature checks prior to entering their assigned duty area within the facility.
  • Campers also have similar protocols for entering the facility (without parents entering) before immediately entering their assigned age group area.

Staff and campers stay within their designated areas while in the facility and alternate to the West Gymnasium for play-break & inside exercise/games, plus, outside on a rotating basis. Each group has their own designated games and equipment that is utilized for all camp activities -we do not share! Within their assigned areas, staff and campers are provided with sanitizers (gel, spray, cleaning supplies & gloves) to utilize throughout the day.

Although these protocols/preventatives are in place, in the best interest of all involved the Summer Day Camp Program will CLOSE the week of June 22-26, 2020 as a precautionary measure. Any camper who may experience any of the symptoms of COVID-19 should self-isolate and/or contact their physician as needed.
