ArtWalk Will Have Fayetteville Hopping

F From the beginning of last summer until January of this year, ARTS puts out a call for artists throughout Texas to feature their works at ArtWalk. Reverend Winkler Honored In Cistern

Rev. Eddie Winkler was honored with a farewell gathering at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Parish in Cistern on Sunday, April 21. He is being transferred to Hostyn and Plum Parishes on June 1. The social hour, which began at 5 p.m. was followed by a barbecue brisket and chicken meal.

40-Acre Energy Storage Facility Planned in Warda

Fayette County Commissioners Court accepted a tax abatement application, along with a $1,000 application fee, from Staccato Storage LLC, at their meeting last Thursday, April 25. The company wants to build an 200-megawatt battery energy storage facility on approximately 40 acres of property west of Warda.

Five LHS Students Advance to State UIL Academic Meet

La Grange High School had quite a showing at Regional UIL academic meet last week in the Nacogdoches/ Carthage areas and are advancing several students to state. One Act Play competed at Carthage High School Friday, April 26, and the rest of the Academic team competed at SFASU in Nacogdoches on Saturday, April 27.

Sheriff’s Department Poised for Big Raises

Fayette County is set to receive more than a half million dollars through a new state grant program for rural law enforcement. The money will be used to increase salaries for the Sheriff’s Office, Constables and criminal prosecutors in the County Attorney’s office.

Lions Roll On

The Fayetteville baseball team defeated Richards 12-0 Friday. Jake Kubala threw three hitless innings and Keagan Supak pitched one inning, striking out two. Jack Schley tripled and drove in two. Supak and Easton Jaeger each had two hits. Jaeger, Kole Schmitt and Chance Konvicka all drove in two runs. The Lions are now 10-4 overall.

One Last Meet as a Lep

One of the most elite sprinters in La Grange High School’s history has one more track meet as a Leopard. Austen Diggs is the defending state 4A champ in the 200 meters, the school record holder in the 200 and the 400 meters and has accepted a track scholarship to Baylor.

The La Grange softball team blasted Houston Wheatley 23-0 Thursday at Rice Consolidated to win their 4A playoff opener. Thursday’s victory vaults the Lady Leps into the second round where they will face Salado in a best-of-three series in Thrall.

Flatonia Wins District Baseball Championship

The Flatonia Bulldog baseball team won the 2024 District 29-2A title by defeating the Shiner Comanches 5-0 last week. This was the first district baseball title won by Flatonia since 2009.
