Faith Lutheran High School will be hosting a family friendly Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Holy Cross Picnic Grounds. They will have a German meal, concession stand, dominos, washers and corn hole tournaments and game for the kids. More details on this event will be coming soon.

Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association held a welcome back luncheon on Monday, Sept 13. at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in La Grange, with 18 members in attendance. The luncheon was hosted by the executive board, who provided salads, pizza, cookies, raspberry tea/lemonade.

After a year of Covid, Fayetteville’s annual October community festival returns to the town’s Historic Square on Oct. 16-17. It is always a fun event for the family, and an opportunity to hear music and enjoy a beer with friends. There are family activities, a Country Store and auction items as well. Everyone is invited to this public festival which has been sponsored by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce since 1976.

St. Mark’s Medical Center staff recently received a special delivery from the Crosspoint Community Church team. The generous donation of care baskets were filled with a variety of hearty snacks for the tireless workers at the hospital. The City of La Grange, the La Grange Police Department and the La Grange Citizens Police Academy are pleased to announce that, in conjunction with the Fall Clean Up, the city will host a “Secure Document Shred Day” on Saturday, Oct. 23. This event is being held to assist citizens in shredding documents which might have confidential information on them. The shred event will be held at the La Grange Police Department located at 243 South College from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. noon. Mobile, on-site paper shredding ensures that all discarded information is protected from unauthorized use, eliminating the possibility of fraud or identity theft. This is a free service to the customers of La Grange Utilities. Anyone bringing items to be shredded are asked to bring a City of La Grange utility bill with you in order to participate in this program.

Get ready for fun! The New Ulm Oktoberfest is just over a week away and it looks like our community is in for a wonderful day of celebration! The New Ulm Texas Area Chamber of Commerce along with the New Ulm Volunteer Fire Department have put together an exciting day of German and Bavarian festivities that includes food, activities for the kids, music and of course drink!

Impact Grants The Fayette Community Foundation (FCF) is now accepting applications for the 2021 Community Impact Grant Cycle, with a deadline of Sept. 30.

The Texas State History Museum Foundation has selected two outstanding Texans – legendary pianist James Dick of Round Top and Dallas philanthropist and business leader Lyda Hill – to receive the History-Making Texan Award at the Foundation’s eighteenth annual Texas Independence Day Dinner to be held on March 2, 2022 at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. The award recognizes living Texas legends whose contributions to the state and the nation have been truly historic and exceptional in scope.

The 17th Annual Relay For Life La Grange was held on Saturday, Sept. 25 at Leopard Stadium. Campsites were decorated with this year’s theme “Game On Cancer - The Cure Starts Here.” Eight teams with 75 participants walked laps throughout the event, raising money for a cure. The evening started with Mayor Jan Dockery welcoming our survivors, caregivers and teams; followed by the Pledge of Allegiance; and the National Anthem sung by Lisa and Marissa Muras. The survivors were honored with a survivor medal and then opened the Relay by walking the first lap with their caregivers. During the evening, team members participated in several games in keeping with the Relay theme. At dusk the Luminaria Ceremony was held with Brenda Rainosek giving a tribute following the lighting of 750 bags purchased in honor of loved ones fighting the battle against cancer or in memory of someone who has lost the fight. Teams raised money through bake sales, an online auction, silent auction, and a drive thru meal fundraiser that also served as a survivor meal donated by Koopman Catering.

The La Grange City Council voted 6-1 Monday night, Sept. 27, to approve a new five-year contract with Waste Management, the company that provides garbage and recycling services in the City.
