Fayetteville to Celebrate 44th Lickskillet Days
After a year of Covid, Fayetteville’s annual October community festival returns to the town’s Historic Square on Oct. 16-17. It is always a fun event for the family, and an opportunity to hear music and enjoy a beer with friends. There are family activities, a Country Store and auction items as well. Everyone is invited to this public festival which has been sponsored by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce since 1976.
Saturday Night Dance
The festivities kickoff on Saturday night with the very popular Southbound 955 band performing on the Square from 7 p.m. until closing at 10 p.m. Burgers will be available at 6 p.m. by the Fayetteville Baseball Alumni Association; beer will be served by the Fayetteville Lions Club; and wine on the Square available from The Wine Bar Restaurant at the Grand.
Sunday Parade and Dinner
There is nothing better than a small-town parade. The Lickskillet Days parade will begin from St. John Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. and go through town and around the Square.
The 1-A State Champion Fayetteville Baseball team members are this year’s Grand Marshals, and an image of their homecoming after the winning game is the subject of this year’s Lickskillet Days t-shirts.
Immediately following the parade, Peter’s BBQ will be served, featuring brisket and sausage, buttered potatoes, green beans at $12 a plate. Beer, wine, and soft drinks will be available. (Tickets available at the Fayetteville Bank, Joe’s Place, Orsak’s, the Wine Bar and the Fayetteville Store.)
Near the end of dinner, The Fayette Czech Singers and Dancers will perform. This popular local group sings traditional songs while adorned in traditional Czech clothing.
A Country Store will be open in the Courthouse as well as Silent Auction items. ARTS will be hosting Kids Craft Activities; a free Bounce House will be on the Square and Baked Goods and various vendors can be found as well. (Donations to the Country Store or Silent Auction can be delivered to the Courthouse Sunday morning by 9 a.m.)
The Lickskillet Pageant Winners will be introduced by Mayor Mike Stroup at 1 p.m. followed by the traditional Skillet Licking Contest.
At 1:30 p.m. there will be a Live Auction on the Square with auctioneer Rick Sodek.
