A group of Artful Friday students of Jaime Janda’s Art Journal class traveled to the Texas A&M campus to view the exhibit called Scraps of Life in the Cushing Library. She has put together a collection of scrapbooks and journals from the archives, some dating back to the mid-1800’s. They also had an opportunity to view ancient artifacts, old books, and the Historic Press Room. Maria Franco is the new City Secretary in Weimar, it was a delight to meet her and hear about her job responsibilities.

Senior Connections, a vibrant nonprofit organization dedicated to serving seniors aged 55 and up, invites our community to join for an exciting week of activities and camaraderie across Fayette, Colorado, and Lavaca counties. With doors opening at 9 a.m. members are greeted with a warm cup of coffee and a bright smile from our dedicated volunteers. Our spaces are filled with the sounds of music, laughter, and friendly competition as members engage in a variety of games, with dominoes being the favorite.

Enjoy chicken fajitas and Gardening Insights at 1111 Bohlmann Ave. in Schulenburg on March 16. Chicken fajitas from Oakridge, homemade rice, beans, and all the fixings by our culinary expert volunteers will be served. Arrive by 11 a.m. to secure a good seat. Did you know that the members provide the desserts we serve with each meal? We have a sign-up sheet for them to add their name to if they want to either bake or purchase a dessert to share with the group. If you would like to take part in this, get your name on the list.

Bake and bring cookies over the weekend to share with our speakers and bingo callers, showing our appreciation for their gift of time.

Brianne Bernsen will present “Spring into Gardening and Homesteading,” sharing her expertise and tips. Join us at 12:30 p.m. as Amanda from Anytime Fitness calls the game, bringing her bubbly personality to the mix.

On March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, join us in Weimar at First United Methodist Church, 301 W. Saint Charles St. The menu includes beef stroganoff prepared by Amanda Kridel, Executive Director and Master Chef, accompanied by garlic bread and seasonal salad with desserts brought by our members.

Lunch & Learn will feature Joe Jimenez from Cathedral Oaks Retreat Center who will share insights about the center’s activities. Niesha from True Care Living in Columbus will join at 12:30 p.m. for Bingo. Don’t forget to wear green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

On March 18, a birthday celebration with chicken strips will be served back in Schulenburg at 1111 Bohlmann Ave. Chicken strips with gravy from Koopmann Catering, plus buttered noodles and our famous house salad for the birthday celebration. If you want to be included in the March birthday photograph, arrive by 10:50 a.m.

Jeffrey from the Oaks in Columbus will call the bingo game at noon, ensuring a lively atmosphere with his infectious, happy attitude.

Join us for a visit to the Weimar Historical Museum on March 19 followed by lunch at Rodeo Grill.

Spring celebrations and Artful Fridays continues on Friday, March 20 at the Arts for Rural Texas campus in Schulenburg.

Jaime Janda will continue her art journal class, while Claire Lewis will teach printmaking from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Registration is required due to limited space for these monthlong workshops, open to anyone 55 and up. You do not have to be a member of Senior Connections to take part. But once you join our crew, you will want be a member to keep updated with upcoming events. Members will enjoy a home-cooked meal after the classes.
