Fire in Warda Burns 40 Acres
A tree that fell on a power line sparked a wildfire the spread to about 40 acres in the Warda area as of around 8 a.m. on Monday, March 16. Officials are calling it the Whirling Pines Fire.
Winchester and La Grange volunteer fire departments were battling the fire with assistance from the Texas Forest Service. Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies were also assisting.
The fire covered an area in the 5800 block of US 77, just south of Warda, between FM 1482 and Geise Ln. There have been no reported structure fires or injuries at this time. The fire was approximately 25 percent contained as of 8 a.m. Monday.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reported that the fire started when a tree fell on a power line.
