The Navasota murder suspect arrested in Schulenburg last week had been living in Schulenburg, according to Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek. Willie Poldo, 44, was arrested on Nov.

The Weimar Memorial VFW Post 5875 Auxiliary presented Joe Janecka of Dubina with a Certificate of Appreciation for his film Breaking the Silence. Mr. Janecka, a Dubina area resident, created his film from interviews that he conducted with several Vietnam Veterans. They talked about their lives before the war, their experiences during the war and their life after they returned from Vietnam. Mr. Janecka said that he decided to do this film because a lot of the Vietnam Veterans did not talk about the war when they returned home. He felt that they did not get the respect they deserved for having served their country. He said it was time to have their voices heard. This hour-long film premiered at the Lyric Theater in Flatonia on November 7. It was presented free of charge so any Veteran or other interested party that wished to attend could do so, thanks to the generosity of Lyric Theater owner Terry Ehler. The 24th Annual Homes tour in and around Fayetteville will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, from 1-4 p.m. This annual event is part of Fayetteville’s Country Christmas celebration, highlighted by the annual Lighted Parade at 6 p.m. around the town’s Historic Square.

The Hechler-Walla and Sula families and friends celebrated Thanksgiving in the all-purpose building behind the home of Doris Hechler. Around 10 dogs and their 19 human companions all joined in the traditional celebration that began in the outdoor facility back in 1999.

The Christmas holiday is suddenly just around the corner, and Turtle Wing Foundation invites all families to help welcome the season by sharing in “A Gift of the Finest Straw,” a special program which shares the true meaning of Christmas through music and poetic storytelling. This family gathering will be held on Friday, Dec. 3 beginning at 7 p.m. at the On Pointe Events Room 1201 S. Kessler Ave., Schulenburg.
