Janecka Honored For Making Vietnam Veterans Documentary
The Weimar Memorial VFW Post 5875 Auxiliary presented Joe Janecka of Dubina with a Certificate of Appreciation for his film Breaking the Silence. Mr. Janecka, a Dubina area resident, created his film from interviews that he conducted with several Vietnam Veterans. They talked about their lives before the war, their experiences during the war and their life after they returned from Vietnam. Mr. Janecka said that he decided to do this film because a lot of the Vietnam Veterans did not talk about the war when they returned home. He felt that they did not get the respect they deserved for having served their country. He said it was time to have their voices heard. This hour-long film premiered at the Lyric Theater in Flatonia on November 7. It was presented free of charge so any Veteran or other interested party that wished to attend could do so, thanks to the generosity of Lyric Theater owner Terry Ehler. Mr. Janecka plans to continue his work on this film and would like to interview other Vietnam Veterans. If interested, Mr. Janecka can be contacted at Weimarjoe@gmail.com.
